Polio attacked my feet when I was eight months old. Now I am 26, crutches and the wheel chair are my constant companions. I face a lot of difficulties because of my disability, especially in the attitude of others towards me.

Despite my disability, I managed to complete my studies and earn a Master’s degree in Education and Islamiat. My reduced mobility was a major obstacle. I had to move from my district Sibi to Quetta just to get admission to the University. I had to travel in public transport, which was by no means easy, but for the sake of my education I challenged all difficulties.

Polio can be defeated in Pakistan only through enlightening all parents about the importance of vaccination and how it spares their children a life-long disability. Parents should make sound healthcare decisions on behalf of their children to ensure they grow up healthy to reach their full potential in life. In the context of my society, the female, be it a mother, a health worker or a teacher, can play a key role in eradicating polio so that children enjoy their life to the fullest.
