Islamabad, December 10, 2014 - According to the information gathered by the National Emergency Operations Centre today, more than 60% children were vaccinated in two days of the National Polio campaign. 20,663,368 children were vaccinated by 184,950 polio teams including mobile, fixed and at transit sites in first two days of the National Polio Campaign. Data shows that 1,222,495 children were not available at their home during the teams visit on during the two days. Polio teams will visit to cover the not available children during catch up days beginning from Thursday.

Polio campaign will resume in Islamabad from Thursday after delay of two days due to expected political demonstration. Furthermore Punjab Province has extended the Polio Campaign by two days up to Friday to ensure that adequate security is available to the Polio teams following directives of the Chief Minister.

Minister of State for National Health Services, Saira Afzal Tarar, visited the National Emergency Operations Centre to review the conduct of polio campaigns across the country. While reviewing the data, she stressed on the comprehensive analysis of data being received from the provinces. “Accurate data will help us strategize better and work with provinces on plugging the gaps and addressing issue, she added”, Saira Afzal Tarar also stressed on strengthening of timely reporting mechanism by provincial control rooms and their linkages to the National Emergency Operations Centre.
