QUETTA - Mayor of Provincial Capital Quetta Dr. Kaleem Ullah has said he will soon issue directives to all the elected councilors in Quetta to improve the anti-polio drive and ensure that every single child is vaccinated against poliovirus.

“Women councilors would play a pivotal role to address the issue missed children, specifically newborn children, and improve the performance of vaccinators, particularly those who do not visit the houses,” he said.

He expressed these views during the meeting with EOC Coordinator Dr. Syed Saif Ur Rehman. N-STOP officer Dr. Aftab Kakar was also present on the occasion. They reviewed the results of recent polio-campaign and thoroughly discussed the high risk areas. EOC Coordinator Dr. Syed Saif Ur Rehman has said elected politicians and religious leaders could play a better role in improving the quality of the campaign.

He informed the mayor about the new strategy of anti-polio drive in high risk areas to ensure that every single child in Quetta city is vaccinated against crippling virus. They expressed dismay that Pakistan is the only country for 80 percent reservoirs of poliovirus in the world.

Mayor of Quetta Dr. Kaleem Ullah ensured his and the councilors complete support during the anti-polio drive. “We will soon convene a meeting of all the elected councilors and ask them to play a proactive role in eradicating polio virus from the provincial capital,” he said. The newly elected women would be trained about the anti-polio drive.

He said women councilors could play a very important role for the coverage of refusal and not available cases in Quetta. “The situation would improve and we all need to work together to defeat this crippling diseases in order to secure our future,” they agreed.
