October 25, 2013 - While celebrating World Polio day in Pakistan Rotary International and UNICEF have launched a speaking book titled ”A Story of Health” in order to spread awareness about child health, improved nutrition and better sanitation across communities.

The speaking book is an educational tool which has been designed to be a part of the Lady Health Workers Kits which they will use with communities to raise awareness towards issues related to child care, health and hygiene.

”A Story of Health” aims to facilitate community workers to engage better with women, children and fathers to highlight the benefits of a clean environment as well as to ensure that the masses are aware of the importance of vaccines and their role in preventing polio.

It has been designed in a manner in which the audio/visual aspects ensure that the story messages are easy to understand and are related to real life issues so that the listener and reader can connect with them.

The buttons on the pages correlate to the illustrations and describe the scenes in friendly voices in the Urdu and Pashthu languages. This will facilitate reaching specific communities with challenges and barriers as well as to deliver a wider message on health and not just polio.

It is an innovative, creative and educational book which shows the commitment of the polio partners to continue working with communities and families to eradicate polio in Pakistan.

On the occasion of the launch at the Indus Valley School of Architecture, Chief Field Officer UNICEF Sindh Mr. Andro Shilakaze congratulated the team and said that “this is an excellent initiative that has proven worldwide how powerful might be a local, simple low cost technology in the hands of common people.” He strongly suggested and encouraged the private sector and business community not to miss out on this win win situation and bring in new technologies to empower the common people.
